Call Congress on Health Care

(from CCAG)

Please call your member of Congress right now: thank them for their hard work on health care reform so far and have them tell Speaker Pelosi to keep as much of the House bill intact as possible!

CD1 John Larson (202) 225-2265 [DC] - (860) 278-8888 [CT]

CD2 Joe Courtney (202) 225-2076 [DC] – (860) 886-0139 [CT]

CD3 Rosa DeLauro (202) 225-3661 [DC] - (203) 562-3718 [CT]

CD4 Jim Himes (202) 225-5541 [DC] – (866) 453-0028 [CT]

CD5 Chris Murphy (202) 225-4476 [DC] – (860) 223-8412 [CT]

Please call right now because the House Democratic caucus is meeting today and we want to send a strong and clear message that the Senate bill fails to deliver affordability for consumers and accountability for insurance companies. The following items should be addressed in crafting the final bill:

  • Make good health care affordable.
  • Taxing health care benefits is wrong.
  • Low and middle income families must be able to afford health insurance, and employers must provide good health insurance coverage for employees.

Hold insurance companies accountable. If the insurance companies win, we lose. They must be held accountable trhough strong regulations. We must have a choice of a strong national public health insurance option available on day one across the United States.

Our Connecticut delegation has been strong on reform all the way through. Help them continue to be champions for reform within their caucus. Call Congress now!

My thought of the day is from Thom Hartmann's book: SCREWED The Undeclared War Against the Middle Class - And What We Can Do About It :

Quote:
Samual Adams, the tavern owner in Boston who was instrumental in stirring up the Boston Tea Party, said, "It does not take a majority to prevail. But rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men."

We must be that irate, tireless minority fighting against our nations drift towards a corporatocracy that is killing the democracy of, for and by We the People that our Founding Fathers so wisely created.

THE DEMOCRATS NEED BETTER LEADERSHIP AND NEED TO INSTITUTE THE FOLLOWING:

1) WE ALLOWED THE HEALTH CARE BILL TO LANGUISH WITH COUNTLESS NEGOTIATIONS AND MADE IT SO COMPLEX NO ONE UNDERSTANDS IT. IT HAS MORE THAN 2,000 PAGES. THAT IS RIDICULOUS. IT HAS TO BE REWRITTEN SO THAT WE ALL CAN UNDERSTAND.

2) WE SHOULD NEVER SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED IN THE SENATE VERSION TO INCLUDE SPECIAL PAYMENTS TO NEBRASKA SO THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WOULD PAY THAT STATE FOR THEIR EXCESS MEDICAID COSTS.

3) ALL OF THIS IS CAUSED BY A RULE IN THE SENATE THAT ALLOWS 41 SENATORS TO INITIATE FOR A FILLIBUSTER THAT COULD KILL A BILL VOTED BY THE MAJORITY. THIS RULE MUST BE ELIMINATED IN ORDER TO ALLOW THE MAJORITY TO VOTE PROPOSED LEGISLATION INTO ACTION

4) WE NEED STRONGER LEADERSHIP IN THE SENATE MAJORITY.

5) THE PRESIDENT NEEDS TO BE A FORCEFUL FORCE. HE SPENT TO MUCH TIME WISHING THAT THE REPUBLICANS TO NEGOTIATE WHILE THE OPPOSITION JUST WANTED EVERYTHING THE PRESIDENT DESIRED DEFEATED.

6) THE PRESEIDENT NEEDS TO PRESENT STRONG LEADERSHIP BY OUTLINING SPECIFIC HEALTH CARE NEEDS AND A JOBS BILL AIMED AT CREATING JOBS IN THE SMALL TO MEDIUM SIZE PRIVATE BUSINESS COMMUNITY. THIS SHOULD INCLUDE TAX INCENTIVES AND INCENTIVES TO HIRING. THE NEW HEALTH CARE BILL MUST BE A NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE BILL COVERING EVERYONE AND SPECIFICALLY AIDS THE SMALL BUSINESS UNIT REDUCE HIS EXPENSES.

THE DEMOCRATS MUST BE A PARTY THAT IS FOR THE PEOPLE AND LEADS THE AMERICAN POPULACE INTO A PROSPEROUS AND REWARDING AND CARING LIFSTYLE.

Let this be a lesson to us for 2010... Dick Blumenthal is an amazing candidate, with great credibility statewide, but we CANNOT take this seat for granted... We need to run a race as if he was the underdog, which he is in this climate... Let's not screw this up. If we run hard for him, and he runs a great race, he'll win, but there's NO time for compacency here...
